Red Velvet’s Hairstylist Reveals The Secrets To Creating Irene’s Flawless Updos

With her tips, you can create Irene’s signature updos yourself!

From her signature high buns to her bouncy ponytails that never come loose, Red Velvet‘s Irene has some serious updo game. Fans have often wondered what the secret to her flawless hair is and luckily, Red Velvet’s hairstylist Yoon Seo Ha dished out all the secrets behind her iconic updo looks through an interview with Allure Korea.

One of Irene’s most iconic looks is her high bun. She’s rocked this particular look everywhere from red carpet events to fansigns and always looks stunning, elegant, and chic with the hairstyle.

While the bun looks complicated, it’s actually simple! Yoon Seo Ha revealed that the secret to any good bun is to make sure you have the right placement and shape.

The most common mistake for bun hairstyle is the placement of the bun and the shape. When I make Irene’s bun, I make the shape of the bun go up in a straight line.

If the bun is too flat or spread out, it could make your face look rounder than it is. So to achieve the perfect top bun, Yoon Seo Ha believes paying attention to how you tie your hair is key to making your hair look less like a dumpling and more like a bun!

Think about tying your hair slightly above the crown of your head. Tie it up and leave half out. Pull the bun to the top! The point is to make the bun’s shape look like a straight line. If you do too much it can look like a top knot, however. I’m going to turn it diagonally slightly, connect the top and bottom, and secure with a u-pin. It’ll be much easier to think about how you tie your hair and secure it with a u-pin.

If you have a longer face, however, Yoon Seo Ha cautions that a high bun may not be for you. Instead, she had a different suggestion on how to create a stunning bun like Irene’s.

But if you have no fat on the sides of your cheeks or a longer face you should avoid a high bun. What you can do is make the bun bigger by pulling it on the sides and leaving it in the same position. You can make your hair look pretty more effectively to complement your face shape.

While Irene’s hair buns are gorgeous, her super bouncy ponytails are another one of her iconic updo looks. She’s stunned with this classic hairdo on many occasions and it always looks amazing!

Whenever Irene wears a ponytail on stage, no amount of intense choreography can shake her hair loose. Her ponytails are flawless from start to finish, and luckily, Yoon Seo Ha revealed the secret behind the unshakeable ponytail too!

You’ve probably experienced your ponytail going slowly down, right? I’ll explain how to create a ponytail that doesn’t loosen no matter how much you dance or run.

Combing to elastics to create a stronger holding force and paying special attention to the direction you pull the elastic will result in a long-lasting hold. And for added security, a bobby pin can be added.

When you tie your hair, you need to tie it by pulling the elastic band forward to make it tighter. Because you are using two elastic bands, it doubles the holding force. If you want it stronger, you can use bobby pins. Put the bobby pin in from the bottom to the top.

Doing it like this creates that signature bouncy ponytail that is absolutely unshakeable no matter how much dancing is done!

If you do it like this, it looks less loose from the front and the ponytail is slightly above the head. You can create a more refreshing and bouncy ponytail this way. When I do this for idols, it doesn’t become disheveled no matter how much they dance or sweat.
