When NCT DREAM was first created, the third subunit from NCT was a rotational group focusing on a youthful concept. Because of this, the seven members were the youngest in the group and debuted at an extremely young age.
Jeno, Haechan, and Jaemin recently appeared on DIVE Studios‘ K-Pop Daebak with Eric Nam. During the episode, host Eric Nam asked the members how they felt about debuting at such a young age.
Haechan honestly explained that, as they started training at such a young age, they missed out on some of the experiences normal children and teenagers get to do.
We couldn’t spend time in school or share memories with friends back then. We have talked about that, and I do feel sad about it.
Even with those regrets, he then added, because he got to live his dream and carry out his passions for singing and dancing, it didn’t seem as bad that he had to sacrifice some things.
Compared to that, I liked singing and dancing more. So rather than the sadness I feel towards that, the time I’m spending on what I do and what I have to do doesn’t feel like a waste.
Jeno then explained that he thought that, by debuting at a young age, they made a much stronger impression. He also adds that even though they sometimes think they’re getting old, it is reassuring when other idols believe the members are younger than they are.
Like his other members, Jaemin believed that the pros of debuting at such a young age come from the things they’ve learned, which will continue to help them in the future.
As time passed, I learned a lot, and I experienced a lot of things, which is an advantage. Being in a social relationship, how to treat people and knowing what to do on stage, learning about those beforehand makes me think that after time, it may bring us to a better situation.
With so much success already behind them, the members of NCT DREAM are so young and still have such long careers ahead of them. It will be exciting to see what the members can achieve in the future! You can watch the whole video below.
