(G)I-DLE’s Soyeon Didn’t Expect “TOMBOY” To Be Able To Achieve A Perfect All-Kill, Here’s Why

“I’ve been shocked to see that this kind of song can win 1st place.”

There’s no denying that (G)I-DLE‘s comeback, I Never Die, took the K-Pop community by storm. Not only was the point choreography for the title track “TOMBOY” so memorable that it had a bunch of idols joining in on the trend.

But the song itself achieved the first Realtime All-Kill of 2022.

A Realtime All-Kill (RAK) is achieved when a song reaches the #1 spot on all Realtime music charts (Bugs, Genie, MelOn, and FLO).

(G)I-DLE was both the first K-Pop group to achieve a RAK in 2022 as well as the first non-Big Three fourth-generation group to receive a RAK.

But although “TOMBOY” had undeniable success, according to leader Soyeon, she never really expected to receive such recognition with the song.

In a behind-the-scenes video uploaded to (G)I-DLE’s official YouTube channel, Yuqi shares her excitement at the group’s achievement.

But when she asks Soyeon for her thoughts…

Soyeon shares that she was “shocked to see that this kind of song can win 1st place.”

She explains that she was so surprised because “TOMBOY” includes beeping (to censor curse words) and some other bad words.

Although there isn’t anything unusual about cursing in music, Soyeon explains that “as idol singers, there are some words [they] mustn’t use.”

And while Soyeon herself doesn’t see the point in following “such a prejudice.”

(G)I-DLE had to go out of their way to convince their company to allow them to use the words they wanted in their song.

This makes not only the fact that they could release and perform the song a surprise but makes the recognition that “TOMBOY” has achieved especially unexpected.

But, ultimately, Soyeon shares that she is “really grateful for that.”
