Some of the hottest K-Pop idols to have ever debuted were street cast, and NMIXX‘s Bae can count herself as one of them!
On Episode 3 of “PICK NMIXX,” fellow member Haewon started telling the story of how Bae was street cast by JYP Entertainment.
Scouts focus on visuals when they approach a person to ask them to audition for the company. In Bae’s case, she wasn’t even dressed up! She was wearing casual clothes when she caught the scout’s attention.
I heard how you were cast, Bae. You were sweating in a tracksuit.
Bae clarified that she wore her school uniform on top and her gym pants below.
Moreover, I was wearing a short-sleeved tracksuit and summer uniform.
Continuing from where she left off, Haewon said that Bae was scouted after school when she had just left the school gate with her friends. Not only was her tall height eye-catching, but it also enabled her to sling her arms around her friends’ shoulders.
And as Bae is tall, she put her arms around her friends’ shoulders. And she was coming out of the school gate.
Bae was running down a hill, her hair in disarray, when the company’s scout suddenly came up to her and asked if she was interested in singing or dancing.
My hair was messy even if I tied it neatly in the morning. I was running down the hill when suddenly, ‘Are you interested in singing or dancing?‘ She asked me like this.
That wasn’t the only time Bae talked about the day she was street cast. During the group’s first Weekly Idol appearance, she shared more never before heard details.
It happened on a very hot summer day when I was in eight grade. After school, I was walking to my school’s back door to go home. I was linking my arms with my friends on both sides. I was wearing my summer uniform on top and my gym pants below. And then the company’s agent came to me and asked if I was interested in singing or dancing.
Bae’s friends excitedly told the scout that she was good at dancing, and the rest is history! She boasts model-like visuals and impressive vocal and dance abilities.
