After making his powerful return with his second solo mini-album Delight, EXO‘s Baekhyun appeared on MBC FM4U‘s Kim Shin Young’s Hope Song At Noon to talk about a wide range of topics including his thoughts on album sales.
Baekhyun has already crushed numerous records with his comeback, including the record for first-week sales with over 700,000 copies sold, and he’s taken over the no. 1 spots on multiple charts. Knowing about his amazing achievements, DJ Kim Shin Young was curious to know if it felt different coming in first as EXO or as a soloist.
Although Baekhyun didn’t say whether or not if it felt any different he did reveal how surprised he was at Delight‘s success, especially when it came to album sales.
At first, I couldn’t believe it. Our fans have already bought many EXO albums so I told them they shouldn’t buy more albums and instead use the money to take care of themselves like buying padded coats for when winter comes. No one listened to me though and they still bought my album.
Baekhyun further elaborated that he doesn’t ever want fans to feel like it’s their responsibility to buy albums. In fact, he said he would be very happy if fans would focus on buying items for themselves before even thinking about buying an album!
I’m worried that fans will feel like it’s their responsibility to buy my album. I would be very happy if our fans used their money for themselves first and then, with what’s left, they can buy albums. I hope they won’t see buying albums as an obligation.
This actually isn’t the first time that Baekhyun, or his fellow EXO members for that matter, have spoken up about the topic and let fans know that they didn’t need to buy albums. In fact, just as Baekhyun had mentioned, back in 2018 after EXO dropped their Don’t Mess Up My Tempo album he told fans to buy padded jackets instead of albums.
And with his latest words on the subject, Baekhyun has once again showcased his warm heart while causing everyone to fall even further in love with him!
