K-Pop soloist AleXa recently sat down with Korea JoongAng Daily and discussed various parts of her career. In the interview, she also spoke about the current rise in Asian hate crimes and the #stopasianhate movement.
Many K-Pop stars have spoken out about the issue. AleXa emphasized the importance for her as someone who grew up as a half-Korean girl.
She explained how, being half-Korean, she sometimes doubted whether she had the right to be offended by Asian racism.
Yet, growing up where I did, I was always seen as Asian, and I always faced Asian racism.
She emphasized the point that because she is still half-Korean, she had faced prejudice in the past. AleXa also added that it is an issue the community has been going through for a long time.
They have been going through this, but now it’s only becoming more prominent in the media.
AleXa then explained that she would like to speak on these matters to raise awareness and let people know that “We won’t be silenced!”
