Happiness is an apocalyptic thriller that takes place in a world where infectious diseases are the new normal. In a newly constructed apartment where the higher floors are up for general sales and the lower floors are rented out, the K-Drama shows the psychological battle and class discrimination in the building. The entire city suffers when an apocalypse hits in the form of a disease in which people suffer from unrelenting thirst.

The series will be directed by producing director Ahn Gil Ho (Record of Youth, Memories of the Alhambra, etc.) and writer Han Sang Woon (The Good Wife, SPY, etc.), who worked on WATCHER together.

Park Hyung Sik was offered the role of the male lead Jung Yi Hyun, a violent crimes detective. He was a former up-and-coming baseball player in high school, but a knee injury forced him to quit, so he became a police officer instead. Han Hyo Joo is currently reviewing an offer to star as the female lead Yoon Sae Bom. It was also reported that Jo Woo Jin was cast as commander Han Tae Suk of the Armed Forces Medical Command.

Last month, Park Hyung Sik was in talks to star in The Golden Hairpin [working title]. According to Sports Chosun, the K-Drama’s producers were originally planning to remake a Chinese original work, but they have ultimately decided to write a new story of their own. This could most likely be due to the current feud between China and South Korea. The production was reportedly pushed back from June to September of this year, giving Park Hyung Sik time to star in a different series before it.
