Actors Bae Doona, Gong Yoo, Lee Joon, and Jung Woo Sung will unite for Netflix’s new original series Sea of Silence.
Netflix confirmed to the media that Bae Doona, Gong Yoo, and Lee Joon will comprise the main cast of the drama while Jung Woo Sung will transition in a producer role for the drama, which is a story where elite members of society go to an abandoned research base on the moon, following the devastation of an Earth that has run out of natural resources.
Bae Doona will play the role of Dr. Song Jian, an astrobiologist. She is a doctor who joins the team to reveal the cause of the accident at Balhae Station, a research facility on the moon that was abandoned. Following her appearances on Kingdom and Sense8, this marks her third Netflix drama.
Gong Yoo will play the role of Han Yoonja, the expedition captain who leads a dangerous mission with limited information. He considers the safety of his crew top priority and won’t hesitate to put himself in danger instead. However, due to his priority of fulfilling his mission instead of recognizing his past accidents, he clashes with Dr. Song Jian.
Lee Joon will play the role of Captain Ryu Taeseok, a skilled engineer and former elite member of the Defense Ministry. He volunteered for the dangerous mission as he was frustrated being held back in the ministry, and was curious about the dangers that lay ahead.
The drama will be directed by Choi Hang Yong, who directed the short film of the same name that the drama is based on. He has adapted his short film to fit a drama setting. The drama will be written by Park Eun Kyo, who is known for her hit movie Mother. In addition, Jung Woo Sung will take the megaphone and participate in the production of the drama.
