Kim Kibum leaves SM Entertainment upon contract expiration to begin a “new life”

Kim Kibum has officially announced on his Instagram that he is “finished” with SM Entertainment and has left the agency.

On August 20th, he writes, “2015 August 18th. Finished with S.M. Ent. Let’s begin my new life…!! Thank you SM Entertainment for the time we spent together.”

There is no word as to what steps he will take next, such as if he will sign on with another agency. In addition, no word as to what his official status as a Super Junior member is.

SM Entertainment confirmed his contract expiration and said, “Kim Kibum’s contract with SM has expired. Please look forward and continue to cheer on Kim Kibum.”

Kim Kibum made his modeling and acting debut in 2004 before making another debut as part of Super Junior in 2005. However, in 2009, while he was present in both music videos for “Sorry Sorry” and the follow-up single “It’s You,” Kim Kibum did not have any solo lines in the latter track and was not present during promotions, making this the last set of promotions that he would be seen in music video wise.

He has since then participated in various dramas including Deep Rooted Tree, I Love Lee Tae Ri, and Chinese drama The Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils.

With Super Junior’s comeback in July with their 10th anniversary album, the members who guested on Radio Star were asked about Kim Kibum with Leeteuk answering that he has been busy with dramas.

Eunhyuk further added, “Kibum is still a member of Super Junior. More than being a singer, his goals is to be an actor. If he wants to return as a singer, we are more than happy to welcome him back.”
