JYP Entertainment Announces TWICE’s Jeongyeon Cannot Dance At Upcoming Online Concert Due To Health Problems

Fans got #GetWellSoonJeongyeon trending #1 worldwide.

Just days before TWICE’s first online concert is due to begin, JYP Entertainment has announced that Jeongyeon will be unable to fully participate.

On August 4, JYP Entertainment and SM Entertainment announced that they will be launching the Beyond LIVE Corporation—a joint venture to product online concerts. And, as fans have known for several weeks, the first JYP Entertainment artist to hold a Beyond LIVE concert will be none other than TWICE.

TWICE’s Beyond LIVE – TWICE: World in a Day concert will air live on Sunday, August 9 at 3PM Korean Standard Time. However, just three days before the show, JYP Entertainment has now announced that Jeongyeon is suffering from health problems and won’t be able to dance with the rest of her members.

Thankfully for fans, Jeongyeon will still be in attendance at the concert. As a result of her health condition, the company says she will be sitting in a chair during the performances.

While JYP Entertainment didn’t specify why Jeongyeon would be seated at the concert, fans know she has been recovering from a neck injury for quite some time. During a live broadcast in June, Jeongyeon revealed she began experiencing numbness in her neck that radiated to her ear during the shooting for More & More’s music video. After visiting a specialist hospital one week before the comeback, she was diagnosed with a herniated disc in her neck.

Jeongyeon has been seen wearing pain patches on her neck since the injury.

Jeongyeon went on to tell fans that she had a medical procedure done and had to remain in hospital. As a result, she wasn’t able to practice for the comeback—which is why she didn’t have any individual fancams.

According to the company’s statement, it was Jeongyeon’s decision to perform seated at TWICE: World in a Day as she wants to meet ONCEs after a long time apart. TWICE’s last in-person concert was TWICElights in Shizuoka, Japan, held almost 6 months ago. The remaining shows were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After JYP Entertainment announced the unfortunate news, ONCEs were quick to trend #GetWellSoonJeongyeon on Twitter.

Thousands of fans sent her well wishes. Within less than 2 hours, the hashtag was trending at #1 worldwide with over 30,000 tweets.

However, not all fans were able to remain so positive. Several ONCEs have criticized the company for allowing Jeongyeon to perform during More & More era and practice for TWICE: World in a Day with a neck injury.

In her June broadcast, Jeongyeon told fans she was feeling better. However, as treatment for a herniated disc typically involves plenty of rest, many are speculating that Jeongyeon’s intense schedule has worsened her injury over time.
