At this year’s Seoul Music Awards (SMA) on January 30, ITZY and TXT achieved something fans have all been hoping for: a Rookie Grand Slam! Both groups received the prestigious SMA New Artist Award, which means they managed to sweep ‘Rookie of the Year’ prizes at all five major awards shows.
Alongside winning at the 29th Seoul Music Awards, ITZY and TXT both received rookie prizes from the other major awards shows in Korea: the MelOn Music Awards (MMA), Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), Golden Disk Awards (GDA) and the GAON Chart Music Awards.
ITZY makes history as the first girl group to ever win all five major ROTY prizes.
Overall, the group now holds a staggering total of 14 rookie awards, making them group with the most ROTY awards of all time.
TXT isn’t far behind with a total of 11 rookie awards.
2019 was definitely a year for monster rookies, as this marks the first time two groups with the same debut year achieved Rookie Grand Slam status.
ITZY and TXT are the fourth and fifth groups to manage the Grand Slam Rookie feat. The only other artists who have accomplished it in the past are SHINee, iKON, and Wanna One.
MOAs and MIDZYs are excited to see these two legendary groups achieve great things together. Congratulations to both!
