In a recent interview with Teen Vogue, Soyeon revealed that while she now has a great rep for being a talented songwriter, back in her trainee days, people that it was odd for a female trainee to want to learn to write and compose songs.

She then commented on how it always frustrated her when she would bring up top idol producers like BIGBANG‘s G-Dragon or Block B‘s Zico, and would be told that it’s okay for them to write their own music because they’re men.

When talking about idols and producers like GD and Zico, they said, ‘They are men.’ Whenever I heard this, I wondered, ‘What does that matter?’

Even though she had a frustrating start, Soyeon has now defied all odds, and is considered one of the greatest idol producers of K-Pop today!
