FIESTAR’s Yezi falls victim to Mnet’s misleading editing on “Unpretty Rapstar 2”

Unsurprisingly, another artist has fallen under Mnet‘s bad and misleading editing: FIESTAR‘s Yezi.

In a recently published unreleased interview video for Yezi for Unpretty Rapstar 2 recorded in July 2015, the FIESTAR member showed her strong determination to show her image and be acknowledge as a true rapper. The meeting first began with Yezi showing off her skills as a rapper to the staff.

She says, “I wanted to write hard lyrics at least once,” continuing to explain, “Because of the ‘idol’ image, everyone is the same and I think no one can reach a certain degree, it’s that kind of image. When people think of idols, they only think of innocent, cute, and sexy images, and because of that, I want to be able to show a different style of my own.”

At this point, the staff interviewing her asks if the lyrics of her auditioned rap at the beginning was written by her. It is then shown that Yezi actually has a hearing problem as she asks, “Who wrote the rap for me?”

The staffer then repeats, “No, I meant the beat, did someone write it for you?” prompting her to question again, “Who are you saying wrote the beat for me?” but quickly clarified, “My hearing isn’t good.”

Especially in the first two episode of Unpretty Rapstar 2, Yezi’s bad hearing was used to make her look like she had an attitude problem during editing to gain the interest of viewers.

When asked why she wanted to be on Unpretty Rapstar, Yezi revealed that she’d like to be on a broadcast by herself without any pre-determined image. She states, “While I was watching ‘Unpretty Rapstar’ season 1, there was a humane feeling to it. It had a very humane smell to it. I want to do it like that.”
