BTS’s Suga Reveals The Biggest Differences Between Rapping In English And Korean

Which does he prefer?

BTS may be artists hailing from Korea, but they’ve released several English songs through the years like “Dynamite,” “Butter,” and “Permission To Dance.”

In an interview with Weverse Magazine, Suga talked about rapping in English and in Korean. The topic was brought up when he was asked if there were any differences that arose when they altered their music style.

As far as style goes, you’ve been doing a smoother kind of pop music. Did any differences arise as a result of these changes?

Suga admitted that perfecting the English pronunciations was the most difficult part for him. Unlike if it were in Korean, it was harder for him to portray the smoothness of the song.

All things considered, the English was the hardest part. I paid close attention to my pronunciation in ‘Butter’ and ‘Permission to Dance.’ It wasn’t easy to capture that smooth feeling in the songs, so I practiced my pronunciation quite a bit.

He finds himself breathing more whenever he is performing an English song, which makes rapping more difficult. The biggest difference between the two languages, however, is in how English has more syllables.

And I end up breathing a lot when I’m doing an English song, but the rap parts were a bit hard for that reason. There’s a clear difference from Korean songs, since English has so many syllables.

Knowing the areas he’s weak in, Suga now tries many methods to improve his vocals in both languages.

But I don’t have any one method I stick with for my vocals yet, so I tend to try lots of different things out.
