ARMY Asks South Korean Politicians To “Stop Using” BTS Politically

Fans were upset by media reports that BTS would perform at the presidential inauguration.

Following reports that BTS was asked to perform at the inauguration of President-Elect Yoon Seok Yeol, South Korean ARMYs urged politicians to stop politicizing BTS.

After Korean media reported that the presidential transition committee was discussing BTS performing at the inauguration, ARMYs took to the committee’s website to express their disapproval. According to the Korea Herald, over 1,000 comments were posted on the site urging politicians to stop using BTS for political gain. The comments said things like “The inauguration ceremony is not a festival,” “BTS is not politicians’ plaything,” and “Don’t use BTS politically.”

The presidential transition committee addressed the reports on April 6 and stated that they “did not plan a BTS performance” and they never contacted HYBE in regard to the inauguration ceremony.

Yoon Seok Yeol also came under fire during his presidential campaign for creating a video called “AI Yoon Seok Yeol will join ARMY purple heart.” The video was deleted after ARMYs criticized the video.
