BLACKPINK Edges Out BTS To Take Top Spot In Forbes Korea’s Power Celebrity Rankings 2019

These rankings took into account everything from media rankings to SNS.

Forbes Korea has released their Power Celebrity rankings for 2019.

BTS placed #2, just behind BLACKPINK.

40 of the most influential people active in film, drama, music, and sports were selected based on a survey conducted between March 2018 to February 2019 based on search rankings provided by Kakao. According to Forbes Korea, celebrities with scandals were excluded.

The list was created based on several criteria-Media, Broadcasting, Income, CF/Advertising, and SNS.

Media is the number of mentions in headlines in the media. This based on data provided by the Korean Press Foundation, taken from 53 registered media outlets.

Broadcasting includes all domestic broadcasting activities including dramas, variety shows, audience rating.

BLACKPINK is ranked #1

Income refers to earnings from film, broadcasts, advertising fees, digital music sales, performances, salaries, and prize money. Music sales is based on data provided by KOMCA and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Includes income from domestic and overseas activities, awards.

CF/Advertisement earnings reflect the power of a celebrity and is directly associated with income. Brand endorsements are classified into: A – Large companies, B – Small and medium companies, C – Local advertisements.

SNS is a new criteria introduced this year, and is also directly linked to income through advertisements and number of subscribers or followers. SNS includes artist’s official Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, VLIVE, Twitter, and personal accounts, if any.

According to the list, BLACKPINK edges out BTS to take the top spot off the back of a #1 ranking on SNS.

BLACKPINK’s commendable social media presence has been bolstered by their individual instagram accounts. For example, BLACKPINK’s Lisa is the most followed K-Pop act on instagram.

Wanna One, Kang Daniel, and Red Velvet round off the top 5 of 2019.
