Actress Ha Ji Won appointed ambassador for international NGO “Operation Smile”

Hallyu actress Ha Ji Won has been appointed as an ambassador for an international health and medical NGO, Operation Smile. Ha Ji Won will become the first Asian woman and second Asian celebrity after Jackie Chan to be appointed as an ambassador for the NGO.

Headquartered in the United States, Operation Smile is a global health and medical NGO dedicated to helping children with facial deformities, such as cleft lip and cleft palate. On November 11th, KOTRA and Operation Smile held an appointment ceremony for actress Ha Ji Won’s ambassador position as well as for the upcoming 25th anniversary event for Operation Smile’s Vietnam branch on November 15th. The ceremony included Ha Ji Won’s speech, an introductory speech for the organization, and a ceremony of “smile” T-shirts which will be given to Vietnamese children facing difficulties with facial disfigurements.

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of its establishment in Vietnam, Operation Smile invited around 500 medical personnel from all around the world to provide free operations and services to 5,000 children in Vietnam. The medical charity event will take place for a month, beginning on November 15th.

Meanwhile, Operation Smile Korea’s chief director Jeon Soon Pyo mentioned, “We hope that through Ha Ji Won’s exemplary good deeds, many people will participate in this meaningful charity to help bring back smiles on the children suffering from cleft lips and palates.”

The KOTRA’s chief director Oh Young Ho expressed, “The collaboration between Hallyu stars and companies in order to help children of developing countries will provide an inspirational, positive, and novel type of advancement overseas. It will be a meaningful CSR platform as well.”
