Idols turn to acting as their K-Pop careers grow and they feel the passion to explore their talents off the stage. Some idols have proved themselves exceedingly good at acting and have turned it into a full time gig. Check out the Top 3 male and female idols-turned-actors, chosen by the Korean viewers!

 

3rd (Male) – Seo In Guk

Seo In Guk debuted as an actor in 2012 with a role in Love Rain and first showed potential in becoming one of the best idol-turned-actors in K-Pop history. Then with Reply 1997, Seo In Guk became an award-winning actor. Since this series, Seo In Guk has appeared in dramas and movies that received high ratings and good reviews.

 

2nd (Male) – Lee Seung Gi

Lee Seung Gi is actually considered a veteran actor, with a well-developed filmography since 2004. From 2004 to 2005, he appeared for a period of time on Nonstop 5, making this his debut title. His following role in Famous Chil Princesses as an immature mama’s boy attracted viewers’ interest, as the series itself had a mega rating of over 50%. Since then, all his dramas have done relatively well. Lee Seung Gi’s most recent movie, “The Princess and the Matchmaker”, was a box office #1 for the week it released.

ZE:A‘s Im Si Wan debuted as an actor after passing the audition for a role in Moon Embracing the Sun. He has developed a well-rounded filmography since this hit TV series. Viewers saw great potential in Im Si Wan’s acting and paid attention to his dramas and movies. His roles in the drama Misaeng and the movie “The Attorney” proved that Im Si Wan is not just a pretty face, but an actor in the making with full of talent. His latest movie, “The Merciless”, took him to the Cannes Film Festival. Fans patiently await his release from military duty in 2019 so he can resume starring in TV shows and blockbusters.

 

3rd (Female) – Girl’s Day Hyeri

Girl’s Day‘s Hyeri also debuted as an actress in 2012 with a role in Tasty Life. She appeared in a few other K-Dramas before she really stepped into the spotlight for her beloved Sung Duk Seon role in Reply 1988. Viewers discovered Hyeri’s potential in acting in this series. Hyeri has two movies scheduled to release in 2018-2019.

 

2nd (Female) – Apink Eunji

When Apink‘s Eunji auditioned for her debut role in Reply 1997, she used her Busan accent and wowed the casting team. With the Sung Si Won character from this series, Eunji’s acting career successfully took off and she won a rookie actress award at the Baeksang Arts Award. She is yet to star in a movie, excluding her voiceover for an animation in 2017, so fans look forward to seeing her pursue a role to expand her career.

IU debuted as an actress with a role in Dream High that aired 2010. She played the role of an overweight high school student on a weight loss journey to pursue her dream as an idol. With the appearances of other K-Pop idols like Suzy, 2PM‘s Taecyeon, and T-ARA‘s Eunjung, this TV series became widely popular and brought focus to IU’s acting potential. In 2013, for her female lead role in You Are the Best!, IU won the rookie actress award at the KBS Drama Awards. From then on, she starred in relatively hit dramas, such as Producer and Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo. Viewers have come to agree that IU has stable acting skills that help lead the series into success. IU is currently the center of attention for her (rather controversial) role in My Mister.
