5 Misconceptions About BTS’s Jungkook That Need To Stop

#2 couldn’t be more false.

In 2022, BTS‘s Jungkook is one of the most famous and documented celebrities in the world. Unfortunately, these 5 misconceptions about The Golden Maknae still exist.

1. He is a baby.

When BTS debuted, Jungkook was 15 years old. He was the youngest member of his group and the youngest idol at Big Hit Music.

Nine years later, Jungkook is now 24 years old and a senior to Big Hit Music’s younger idols, such as TXT‘s members.

Although he will always be the “little one” to fans and his older BTS members, there’s no denying that Jungkook has aged and matured into an admirable adult. Time flies!

2. He is “afraid” of women.

As teens (or even as adults), many people are shy or uncomfortable around the opposite sex. Jungkook was no exception.

During BTS’s early days, his “fear” of women became a running joke among fans, but it was never meant to be taken seriously.

In reality, Jungkook was (and still is) somewhat shy around strangers, not afraid of them. Over time, he has become more outgoing, not just around women, but around people in general.

3. He was always shy.

In Jungkook’s “My Biography” interview for Volume 8 of Japan’s FC magazine, Jungkook revealed that he wasn’t born shy. He started out as a “mischievous boy” who loved being outdoors.

I was a very mischievous boy when I was young. I loved playing outside as a kid. I really hated studying though. I got in trouble by my mom a lot. I was the type of kid who would run down the hallway and eat lunch fast at school (laughs). I even tried out for a b-boy competition even though I wasn’t good at it. I sang 2AM’s ‘This Song’ during a field trip in middle school too.

When he arrived for an audition, however, Jungkook became overwhelmed by the number of people in the audition hall. He remembers this as the time when his shyness began.

But when I arrived at the audition hall, I became intimidated by the large crowd. I started to shrink after being surrounded by so many strangers. This might be the time that I began being shy around people I didn’t know.

4. He always dreamed of becoming a singer.

Jungkook began auditioning at a young age, but he could have taken a totally different career path. Even when he was auditioning, he wasn’t sure if singing was his “dream” job.

You might think that I had a dream of becoming a singer from a young age, but truthfully I still didn’t know what my goal or dream was even when I tried out for the audition program…It was more of a ‘what will be will be’ type of mindset and was also just for fun.

5. He doesn’t need to work as hard as other BTS members.

The Golden Maknae is multi-talented and naturally gifted, but he still works tirelessly to improve himself and his craft. In addition to learning new skills, including skills that don’t come as naturally to him as singing and dancing do (such as speaking English), Jungkook continues to improve the skills he already has.

Why does this misconception exist? It could be because Jungkook keeps his behind-the-scenes struggles to himself and tries to stay positive.

Chances are, there are plenty of “blood, sweat, and tears” moments that we will never know about. For instance, in an episode of Visiting Teacher, television personality Kim Sung Joo revealed that Jungkook once saved his life, injuring himself in the process.

Jungkook actually saved my life once. I almost died.

At the 2016 DMC Festival, right before BTS performed “FIRE,” Kim Sung Joo fell into a lowered stage lift, right onto Jungkook.

I fell inside the lift but fell on top of someone. Jungkook was right there.

Since Jungkook never spoke about the incident, fans had no idea what had happened until Kim Sung Joo brought it up two years later. ARMYs have since pointed out that Jungkook seemed to be struggling to lift his arm for some parts of “FIRE.” He might have injured it while protecting Kim Sung Joo.
