5 Traits Fans Believe Are Essential For A Perfect K-Pop Idol Group Center

To be a perfect idol group center, fans believe you must have these traits.

The center of an idol group is an essential position for a member (or members) to take. Visually, they’re the first performers that fans see, and the center is the one who catches the eyes of non-fans or casual fans, and draws them in. After BLACKPINK‘s Lisa spoke about the importance of the center position on Youth With You, netizens on an online community began to talk about what they believe are essential traits for a good idol group center to have.

1. Visuals

The first trait to be listed is visuals. Fans believe that for a member to be the center, they must have extremely good visuals that are eye-catching, especially during a performance. Idols like Red Velvet‘s Irene and Girls’ Generation‘s Yoona are good examples of being their respective group’s centers due to their gorgeous, unmatched visuals.

2. Stage Presence

The second trait listed is stage presence. As the center is the member on whom the entire audience is focused on, they must have good stage presence in order to impress the audience while centerstage. Fans also focus on these members because they convey to them the overall vibe and style of the group. Idols like BLACKPINK‘s Jennie and TWICE‘s Nayeon are good examples of center position members who have very dominant stage presences.

3. Good Physical Proportions

Good physical proportions is also listed as a necessary trait for the center member to have, as along with your face, even your proportions must be eye-catching enough to draw in new fans and to help keep existing ones. Idols such as AOA‘s Seolhyun and Apink‘s Naeun are good examples of centerstage idols who are famed for their goddess proportions!

4. Dance Skills

Another trait listed is dance skills. Fans believe that the centers should be strong dancers, because they’re meant to command attention onstage. Many times, the main dancer ends up also taking over the center position, due to their strong visuals, dance skills and stage presence. Idols such as T-ARA‘s Jiyeon and IZ*ONE‘s Wonyoung, both of whom are their group’s main dancer and lead dancer respectively, are good examples of this trait!

5. Public Recognition/ Likeable Image

The last trait to be listed is public recognition/ popularity. When an idol group member becomes more recognized by the public, they can potentially bring in many fans, and when those fans join the fandom, they mostly look at the initial member who brought them in while learning more about the group. Idols like Girls’ Generation‘s Yoona and former Miss A member Suzy are good examples of being public favorites and the most recognizable centers from all idol groups!
