It’s always exciting to find love, and for celebrities, it becomes an occasion of public celebration should they choose to publicly announce their relationship. However, it becomes equally hard for them when they choose to let each other go because such knowledge becomes public as well.
While the circumstances might not be clear, here are some famous Korean celebrity breakups.
1. Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk
It’s always exciting when an onscreen K-Drama couple becomes official in real life! That’s exactly how it was for these Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo co-stars. Fans were ecstatic to hear the two had developed feelings for each other over the course of the show. Unfortunately, this meant fans were equally as devastated when YG Entertainment officially stated the relationship had come to an end in August 2017.
2. IU and Jang Ki Ha
IU and Jang Ki Ha met in 2013 and began dating soon after. Two years later they made their relationship public and the whole world was happy for the couple. Regrettably, after 4 years together, IU and Jang Ki Ha parted ways and decided to remain as friends.
3. UEE and Lee Sang Yoon
Relationships are a lot of hard work especially if you are celebrities. No one knows this better than UEE and Lee Sang Yoon, who decided to call it quits in 2017. Pledis Entertainment made a statement in regards to the two saying, they believed they had “naturally drifted apart due to their busy schedules.” They also added that UEE and Lee Sang Yoon would still remain as good colleagues and support one another. The news of their breakup came as a huge shock to everyone as it seemed the couple was as strong as ever, but obviously their schedules played into their relationship a little too much.
4. Sulli and Dynamic Duo’s Choiza
Conquering a 14 year age gap, Sulli and Choiza seemed to be one powerful couple. Unfortunately almost 3 years after they announced they were going out, the two announced the end of their relationship. Following Sulli’s passing, Choize received a barrage of hate messages from netizens, blaming him for her death.
5. Kim Go Eun and Shin Ha Kyun
The two actors decided to split after almost a year of dating. The two reportedly parted ways because of their busy schedules. Luckily, since it was a mutual decision, the two decided to remain good friends.
6. G.Soul and former Miss A’s Min
After being friends for such a long time and promoting together in Korea and America, JYP Entertainment announced the two’s relationship had developed romantically. 6 months later, they would again make a statement about the couple only this time it was bad news. Some fans speculated that the relationship ended because G.Soul was heading for his mandatory military service. Whether or not this is true, we’ll never know! Luckily, Min and G.Soul’s short but sweet romantic relationship didn’t end on a sour note. The two expressed that they will remain as old friends who support each other.
7. EXO’s Kai and f(x)’s Krystal
The K-Pop couple that even had their own name, “Kaistal,” decided to part ways after a year of dating. Their busy schedules kept them from seeing each other often and the two reported that they will be taking the time to focus on their careers. Luckily, the two seem to have broken up on good terms because they also said that they will be supporting each other as well!
8. On Joo Wan and Jo Bo Ah
After almost two years together On Joo Wan and Jo Bo Ah decided to go their separate ways. The two actors met on the 2014 drama Surplus Princess and started dating in early 2015. While their agencies didn’t know the exact reason they broke up, they did believe the two had naturally grown apart and made a statement as such.
9. Eddy Kim and Girl’s Day’s Sojin
Sojin and Eddy Kim confirmed their relationship in June 2017. Then at the end of December, both Eddy and Sojin’s companies made statements that the two had broken up. Their short but wonderful relationship came to its end thanks to their respective busy schedules.
10. Lee Joon Gi and Jeon Hye Bin
Lee Joon Ki and Jeon Hye Bin were another K-drama couple. They met through the 2014 drama Joseon Gunman. What started out as a deep friendship. Eventually, their friendship developed into something more and the two secretly dated for 2 years before fans suspicions made them admit their romance in April 2017. Unfortunately, the news of their relationship would only last a few more months as the couple parted ways in August.
11. Lee Dong Gun and T-ARA’s Jiyeon
As one of the most shocking breakups of 2017, Lee Dong Gun and Jiyeon were together for two strong years and overcame an age gap of 13 years. Although everyone believed this would be a relationship that would last forever, the two broke up in February 2017. Later that same year, Lee Dong Gun would fall in love with and marry actress Jo Yoon Hee.
12. EXO’s Kai and BLACKPINK’s Jennie
After just 4 months of dating, and one month after starting off 2019 with one of the biggest news pieces of the year, Kai and Jennie confirmed their breakup due to busy work lives. Hailed as one of K-Pop’s newest power couples, their relationship sadly did not last long, but they said they would continue to support each other’s work.
13. Suzy and Lee Dong Wook
Suzy and Lee Dong Wook ended their relationship after 4 months together. They were seen together on dates in the wealthy area of Cheongdam-dong and their relationship was quickly confirmed by both of their agencies. However, due to busy schedules with dramas and movies, they were not able to spend time with each other, and naturally broke up.
