10 K-Pop Idols Who Have Openly Dissed Their Own Songs

They didn’t hate their songs, but they didn’t love it either.

Even though these songs did extremely well, these idols were less than thrilled to be performing them. While they didn’t hate the song, it wasn’t their cup of tea, either. Here are idols who have shared their dislike for one (or more!) of their songs.

1. Red Velvet’s Irene and Yeri

As the oldest member, Irene has stated that she didn’t like their song “Rookie” as it was too childish for her. She prefers when Red Velvet pursues more mature concepts.

Yeri has also stated her dislike for the song, stating that it was hard to control her breathing while dancing and having to sing. With how difficult the choreography is, she started resenting the song. She revealed she almost vomited while practicing the dance.

2. SHINee’s Key

Key stated that he didn’t like “Ring Ding Dong”, saying that it didn’t match his music tastes and the addictive sounds would always be stuck in his head.

During one of Key’s Cheongdam KEYchen, he told Taeyeon that he didn’t like SHINee‘s “Hello”. He said the song clashed with his personality and he didn’t enjoy promoting it. Watch him explain why he doesn’t like “Hello” and “Ring Ding Dong” below (start at 1:23):

3. Wonder Girls

Although “Tell Me” is one of the Wonder Girls‘ biggest hits, they were not a fan of the song when they first heard it. When Sunmi visited Park Jinyoung (JYP) on his show Party People, she revealed that none of the members liked the song! They didn’t like the choreography and also hated the retro-style concept. They begged JYP not to give them this song, but in the end, it was a huge hit!

Sohee is not a fan of the most iconic lines in the song, and it also happens to be her line! She hates when she goes “Omona!” in the song.

4. NCT 127’s Yuta

While Yuta did not explicitly say that he didn’t like “Fire Truck”, he did state before the release of “Limitless” that “the song will be good this time”, implying that he wasn’t a fan of their debut track.

5. Suzy

When Suzy guest starred on JYP’s Party People, she confessed that she didn’t like the miss A song “I Don’t Need a Man”. She states that she didn’t like the song because miss A already had barely any male fans. The girls had a predominantly female fanbase who fell in love with their strong image, so it felt like the song was pushing away the male fans.

6. Block B

Block B absolutely despises their debut track “Freeze”. They have stated their dislike for the song as well as the music video numerous times. The boys of Block B have gone to just pretend the song doesn’t exist! During Weekly Idol, when the staff played “Freeze” for their Random Dance segment, P.O. even said, “I didn’t think it was our song!”

7. TWICE

While they didn’t hate the song, nobody but Sana particularly liked “Signal” when they first heard it. The other girls didn’t think the song would do well, but Sana had faith that it would do well. And it did!

8. iKON’s Junhoe

While on Life Bar, Junhoe revealed that during the release of “Bling Bling”, he had hated hip-hop and preferred rock songs. He disliked how rap-heavy and hip-hop sounding the track was and prefers songs like “Love Scenario” instead. Watch his explanation below (start at 0:42):

9. Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon

Taeyeon has stated her dislike for many Girl’s Generation songs, the most prominent being their breakthrough track “Gee”. The song did not fit the idol’s personality and taste. She has also expressed dislike for the song “Lion Heart”.

10. Super Junior

Super Junior hates their song “SPY”. When it played on Super TV, they all visibly reacted negatively and asked for the song to be turned off, except for Heechul who chose to dance to the song. While in concerts, the boys have chosen not to dance when the song played and even ran away!
